This is Dark Roast Report, a start-up independent news publication that's just getting started. Founded by Seth Marsicano and Reanna Gonzalez, they noticed a gap in true investigative reporting during their years covering the Southwest Oklahoma area.

The purpose of the Dark Roast is to give the Texoma community a news-site they can count on when it comes to finding the answers to their questions. While the ultimate goal is to form a non-profit alleviating the potential issues when it comes to for-profit news.

The cookout, held in the parking lot of the old Texas Roadhouse location, allowed anyone in the community to come and enjoy a free meal. While the original expectation was to serve around 500 meals to those in the community, they ended up serving 950.

When it comes to wildlife rehabilitation, some communities are fortunate enough to have nearby rescues and rehabbers that are willing to step in and help. Other cities have to get more creative and use what (or who) is available in town.
