March 2026 Texoma Tails

This month’s Texoma Tails is an even divide between dogs and cats looking for love! Each one comes with a unique personality and a heart ready to be filled!

March 2026 Texoma Tails

The trend of adopted Texoma Tails pets continues! Fresca, the sweet older kitty from our February issue has found a loving home! There truly is no better feeling than realizing an animal you were rooting for has found the love they deserve! As avid animal lovers, we are happy to play any part we can in uniting deserving pets with their forever families.

We would like to remind our readers that, while some of the pets on our list are lucky enough to have comfortable and affection foster homes to wait for their forever families, others must stay in shelters. While the shelters we partner with do everything in their power to provide for the pets in their care, the simple fact remains that shelters are overrun due to the stray crisis. The more pets that stay in the shelter, the less new pets the shelters can take in and help. Further, the organizations that operate through fosters are always in need of more fosters for the same reason. This highlights the insurmountable importance of fosters, and the current need for them. Anyone who is unable to adopt a shelter dog or cat, but still wants to help is encouraged to reach out to the shelters housing them to inquire about fostering. The only way the stray crisis can be addressed is if the community comes together to address it.

Talullah

Talullah is a sweet-natured pit mix that has been waiting for her forever home under the care of Stephens County Humane Society in Duncan, Oklahoma. She is about five years old and weighs around 55 pounds. She has stayed with a few fosters and was adopted but sadly returned, due to her owner losing housing. Talullah is a shelter staff favorite because of her gentle and loving nature. Staff say she would do best in a cat-free, all female household.

“She does best in an all-female household and would thrive with women who understand her need for comfort and consistency,” Kelly Nelson, SCHS Executive Director said. “She’s a loving girl who deserves a home where she can be herself and feel secure.”

Those interested in meeting Talullah can contact Stephens County Humane Society at 580-252-7387 or apply for her online. Her adoption fee is $60 and includes her updated vetting.

Madea

Madea is a year old black cat with the Humane Society of Lawton, Oklahoma. Don’t let that nonchalant look fool you — Humane Society volunteers say she is full of energy and very playful. However, they noted that she really gets into playing and can play rough so she wouldn’t be well suited to a home with small kids. They said she does fine with other cats, she just requires time to adjust. They also noted that she’s never been exposed to dogs so they can’t say how she would do in a home with them.

“She doesn’t mind being held for a short amount of time. She loves attention and likes to be petted.”

Madea is FELV/FIV negative and up-to-date on her vaccinations. Those interested in meeting Madea can call her foster Mom at 580-591-3142.

Robin

Robin is a gorgeous tortoiseshell kitten with Heart and Soul Pet Rescue in Fletcher, Oklahoma. She is just under a year old. Her foster family described her as a “social butterfly” that adores human interaction and does well with kids, other cats, and even dogs, so she would do well in a home with a lively family. They said she’s known for always seeking cuddles, being a talker, and napping in sunbeams.

“Her patchwork coat is as unique as her personality, a vibrant mosaic of warm colors that perfectly matches her bright and charming spirit. Robin isn't just a pretty face, she's a master of affection and will win your heart with her purrs and cuddles.”

Anyone who’s interested in adopting Robin can apply for her through Petfinder.

Dan

Dan has been at the Altus, Oklahoma Animal Shelter longer than any of the other dogs there. Shelter staff suspect he’s about 11 months old and he’s been waiting for a home since October. They said Dan is crate trained, house broken, can fetch, loves to play and lives Benny rubs. They also mentioned that Dan can be picky about order so for him to go to a home with other dogs would require side patience as he adapts. Shelter staff expressed that they hate to see such a tone dog growing up in the shelter — especially one as loving, playful, and handsome as Dan.

“He’s grown up in the shelter, and while he did spend some time in our Prison Training Program, what he really needs now is consistency and someone to call his own.”

Those who are interested in meeting Dan can stop by the Altus Animal Shelter or call them at 580-481-2285.

Tubs

Tubs is a two year old male tabby cat staying with a foster through Miss Fannie’s Friends in Wichita Falls, Texas. Organizers of the rescue say he’s often overlooked because he’s shy at first. However, they said once he’s comfortable he really opens up and loves to be loved on. He would make an excellent, cuddly companion for a calmer household.

“He absolutely loves head scratches and quickly turns into a full-on purr machine when you’re petting him!”

Those interested in meeting Tubs can contact Miss Fannie’s Friends at missfanniesfriends@gmail.com or visit their Facebook page.

Parker

Parker is the brother of Pecos, who appeared in our last issue of Texoma Tails. It’s surprising that these handsome brothers are still with the Wilbarger Humane Society. Staff said Parker is a little more shy and reserved than Pecos. He is a 3 year old Pyrenees Poodle, at a standard poodle size. Staff say he would do best in a home with another dog, as he can get lonely.

“He came in at the same time as his brother and both are really sweet boys. Parker is a sweet goofy boy. We would love to have you meet one of them and give them the forever home they are looking for.”

To meet Parker or his brother (or both!) visit the Wilbarger Humane Society in Vernon, Texas or call them at 940-552-5373.
