Texoma Tails – January 2026
Don't miss your chance to adopt one of these furry family members! We're proud to partner with local shelters and rescues to find deserving pets loving homes.
The second edition of Texoma Tails is here! We’re thrilled to announce that since our last issue, one of the dogs we included has found a forever home! As pet-lovers ourselves, we know just how much a furry family member can change your life – for the better! Our whole goal with Texoma Tails is to give pets in the Texoma community who don’t get enough attention for how special they are a spotlight to shine. With the stray crisis taking place across the country, we want to do our part in bringing shelter and rescue pets a step closer to finding the families that have been waiting for them.
Shadow

Shadow is a one year old Doxidor (Dachshund/Labrador mix) under the care of the Humane Society of Lawton - Comanche County in Lawton, Oklahoma. Shadow is a well-behaved dog that is great with kids, dogs, and even cats. On top of his demeanor, Shadow is potty trained, kennel trained, and loves to play outside. Because of his playful nature, Shadow requires an active home that can keep him busy.
“Shadow is full of sunshine but loves to follow you around which hints his name. He is so goofy, full of light, and always has a blep,” Shelter staff said.
Anyone that’s interested in meeting or adopting Shadow can reach out to his foster mom at 405-371-8281.
Dosido

Dosido is named after the Girl Scout cookie and, as her name suggests, she’s so sweet! Dosido is nine years old and has been with Miss Fannie’s Friends in Wichita Falls for about 8 years – the vast majority of her life. Anyone who’s had the privilege of having a senior cat before knows how special and rewarding their love is. Dosido is just waiting on the right family to share all her love and wisdom with.
“She is very affectionate and demands attention – a super sweet girl who has been overlooked,” Volunteers shared.
Anyone interested in meeting or adopting Dosido can reach out on their Facebook page or email them at missfanniesfriends@gmail.com.
Oscar

Oscar is a three and a half year old neutered male Border Collie that was stray in Vernon. His owners contacted Wilbarger Humane Society in Vernon, Texas, but did not come back to get him. He has been with them since October. Oscar does well with other dogs and kids, but it’s not recommended that he go to a home with cats. Because of his playful nature, Oscar needs an active family.
“Our shelter manager says he would be a good candidate for Flyball. Flyball is a dog sport in which teams of dogs race against each other from the start to the finish line, over a line of hurdles, to a box that releases a tennis ball to be caught when the dog presses the spring-loaded pad, then back to their handlers while carrying the ball. She says he has the ball drive and the agility to do things like that and would love a home that would work with him to improve those skills. He is a super precious boy,” Shelter staff shared.
Those interested in Oscar can contact the Wilbarger Humane Society at 940-552-5373 to set up an appointment to meet him. Additionally, they can send inquiries to whs76384@gmail.com.
Gretel

Gretel has been with Stephens County Humane Society for 275 days. She came to the shelter as an owner surrender, due to her previous owner losing their home. Gretel is a beautiful brindle pit mix that has excellent manners and loves playing in water and car rides. She is a notably gentle and clean dog.
Shelter staff feel all that’s keeping Gretel from finding a home is the fact that she’s a larger dog. They believe she would do best in a home with adults, older kids, and no cats.
Gretel’s adoption fee is just $60 and includes all vetting. To learn more about Gretel or to meet her, call 580-252-7387 or visit www.stephenscountyshelter.com.
Marnie

Marnie is a young red heeler who has been at the Altus Animal Shelter since August 20th. Marnie does well with order dogs and loves people. She recently graduated from the shelter’s prison training program where she learned basic commands, leash manners, and is now housebroken and crate trained.“Marnie is playful, affectionate, and always wearing a big smile. She loves nothing more than wrapping you up in a hug and getting one right back,” shelter staff shared. “With her loving personality and solid training foundation, Marnie is ready to step into a home and become someone’s loyal best friend.”
If you’re curious about Marnie, you can reach out to the Altus Animal Shelter.
Briar Rose

Those of our readers that read our last issue of Texoma Tails may remember Briar Rose. Texas Pit Crew requested we feature her again because she is so deserving of a home, yet has struggled to receive the attention she deserves to get adopted.
When Briar Rose came to Texas Pit Crew, she had a litter of puppies. All of them found homes except her. Now she’s willing to show the same level of love and loyalty that she showed her puppies, to a family that will love her back to the same degree.
Briar Rose has undergone training, making her a highly affectionate dog that’s eager to please. However, a home that is willing to stick with her training would be best for her. She also requires an active family that will commit to taking her on her regular walks.
Shelter staff said “After years of being a street dog with a litter of puppies, she’s been spayed and is now ready for her next chapter. With her infectious 10,000-watt smile, she’s destined to become a beloved companion for someone special.”
Her adoption fee is $165 and includes all vetting. To get to know Briar Rose better, contact Texas Pit Crew at texaspitcrew@gmail.com.
