Dark Roast's First Major Fundraiser

Welcome to Dark Roast Report‘s first major fundraising campaign - For the Community, By the Community. Until now, this entire publication started from the money in our own pockets. After a while, we’ve been able to attract a few members and a sponsor, but the reality of the situation is that this isn’t sustainable long-term.
Since its launch, Dark Roast Report has proven its capability in providing the Texoma community with in-depth, community-centered journalism. This campaign is meant to keep that mission going. When you support Dark Roast Report, you support transparency and holding those in power accountable.

What you’ll be funding
Because we believe in holding those in power accountable and advocating for government transparency, we want to hold ourselves to that same standard. Below you’ll find a breakdown of what this campaign will be funding. It’s also important to note that the prices listed in the breakdowns are enough to cover an entire years worth of journalism!
Operations/Administration - $1,700
After all an organization can’t operate without the occasional admin expense. This will receive the largest portion of our overall goal because this is what makes Dark Roast, Dark Roast. While this number can seem large when compared to our overall goal, this actually covers a full year of our operational expenses.
Community Outreach - $700
In case you missed it, Dark Roast announced its very first in person event. On May 2nd, we will be at Amethyst and Ink, in Lawton, for our Open Records Forum. We believe that connections are better made in-person and we want to continue that effort. This will be able to fund more public events and story promotions!
Printing/Distribution - $850
If you’ve been keeping up with Dark Roast, you know we release a monthly printed edition. It’s a large part of our identity, however it also costs a lot of money to print enough zines to deliver to each of our locations and it costs a lot of gas to drive back and forth between Wichita Falls and Lawton. The money raised from this campaign will not only allow us to keep doing it for a year, but allow us to expand this initiative. We recognize there is so much more to Texoma than Lawton and Wichita Falls and want to make that known.
Equipment - $1,100
While Seth and Reanna both have personal equipment, it’s very minimal. This fund while allow for Dark Roast to have its own designated equipment. Keep in mind, this equipment will not be owned by any individual. These will be assets of our nonprofit organization.
Buffer - $500
Last, but not least, we have a buffer fund. This fund is meant to cover any emergency expenses. Whether it’s travel for breaking news or last minute open records fees, we want to be prepared for anything that comes our way.
