Texoma Tails - June 2026
We continue to hear from the rescues and shelters that we feature that Texoma Tails pets are getting adopted. This news always fills us with joy, as Texoma Tails is just one of our many efforts to help our communities address the stray pet crisis. We don't take our role as a platform for community voices lightly, even if those voices come in the form of a meow or a bark. These pets across Texoma are deserving of homes and just waiting for the right person, so if you can provide a home, fostering, volunteer time or donations, we ask that you step up and stand with us in supporting our four-legged community members.
Noel
Stephens County Humane Society (Duncan, OK)
Noel is a stunning 1½-year-old Husky/Shepherd mix weighing about 50 pounds. This sweet girl is searching for a patient, understanding family who can see the beautiful dog hiding behind her fear. All she requires is a little time and reassurance to make a great dog. While the transition might take some time and she'll need a quiet place to adjust her loyalty will be worth the work!
According to staff, life in the shelter has been very hard on Noel. They say she is extremely timid, and when someone approaches her kennel, she often retreats into her doghouse where she feels safe. Because of this, Noel isn’t the kind of dog who will run up to greet you on your first visit.
Staff believe what Noel needs is someone willing to invest their time and heart. This being the case, they suggest interested adopters visit her at the shelter several times so she can become acquainted, build trust, and learn that you are a safe person. From that point staff can begin the adoption process.
"For the person willing to give her that chance, the reward will be incredible. Watching a fearful dog learn to trust, love, and finally feel secure is one of the most meaningful journeys you can experience."

Hannah Banana
Wilbarger Humane Society (Vernon, TX)
Hannah Banana is a 9 to 11 month old Jack Russell mix. Staff say she is very active, good with kids and other dogs, but she can be a bit bossy. She's not yet been tested around cats so staff are not sure how she is with them. Her sassy look says it all, she's ready for someone to adore her and do all her bidding.
"Hannah can be the life of the party - if you were to invite her to a party."

Freya
Humane Society of Lawton - Comanche County (Lawton, OK)
Freya is a one year old female Pointer mix. She weighs 30 pounds and is fully grown. She was locked in a small crate, living in her own filth and given just enough food to stay alive, when the rescue obtained her. Volunteers say she is good with kids, cats, and dogs so she'd make a great addition to any family. Additionally, she's leash trained, kennel trained, and mostly potty trained. She knows many commands, such as sit, shake, down. Volunteers say Freya has been looking for a home for several months and for some reason, isn't getting the attention this good girl deserves.
"She is a velcro dog so she will stick by your side as soon as she learns just how much you love her. She loves everyone, and all dogs – no matter their size – are her new best friends."
Volunteers also mentioned that she loves hikes but is also okay with a simple walk around the block. Once home, they say she becomes a couch potato the rest of the day. They say she'd do best with another playful companion in the home to give her an outlet for her energy. Frederick
Geronima Animal Shelter (Geronimo, OK)
Frederick is a happy and handsome bully breed. His smile makes it clear that he's just looking for his person to enjoy life alongside. He’s neutered and up-to-date on all vaccinations. Frederick is the kind of dog that just happy to be around others. His approach to life is definitely lover not fighter.
"He LOVES other dogs, kids and cats!"

Pepé Le Pew
Heart and Soul Pet Rescue (Fletcher, OK)
Pepé is an eight week old male kitten. His foster says he is super sweet and loves his soft colorful ball, which can commonly be spotted playing with. He is currently adjusting to being around other cats and dogs.
"He loves to fall asleep on my knee!"
Pepé is curious and playful but still getting used to a human environment. Pepé Le Pew was found by himself, so his foster says he can be a bit feisty when he feels the need to protect himself, but he is quickly warming up to affection. Colin
Miss Fannie's Friends (Wichita Falls, TX)
Colin is a vocal Siamese, expected to be around four years old. He started life as a free-roaming community cat with a broken leg. He was rescued and received surgery on his leg, so he is now a happy, healthy, functioning tripod kitty. In addition, Colin is FIV+ but rescue volunteers were sure to pint out that this isn't contagious and he can still live a long, happy life.
"Colin isn't interested in toys or roughhousing. Instead, he'd much rather relax nearby, watch the world go by, and enjoy your company."
Colin's foster says he gets along well with other cats, dogs, and all people. In fact, she says Colin's favorite thing in the world is attention to people. Given that his amputation was recent, he also prefers a nice cozy bed in easily accessible places. Those interested in meeting him can apply online.
